How to reduce potential click fraud and boost adsense revenue at the same time

Two problems most publishers face are suspicious clicks on their ads and improving the quality of the ads on their sites

Two new tools to help out with these problems- one from Google in the form of Adwords IP blocking and the other a free service adsblacklist.com

Adwords IP blocking

How would you like to block a competitor from being able to see your ad?
How would you like to block IP addresses or range of IP addresses from viewing your ads?

You can exclude up to 20 IP addresses, or range of addresses, per campaign. All ads in the campaign are prevented from showing for users with the IP addresses you specify

This could be useful for a variety of reasons. Keep your competitors from seeing and clicking on your ads. This is especially useful in a lot of situations- real estate is the primary example that comes to mind

To block IP’s from your adwords account simply log into your account

  • Navigate to Tools at the top of your campaign summary page
  • Click IP Exclusion under Optimize your ads,
  • Select a campiagn and Click Go-
  • Enter the list of IP addresses to be excluded,
  • Click Exclude IP Addresses

Another benefit to doing this is if you frequently search for your own keywords, you can block your own IP address to keep from affecting your click through rate.

Now that we have hopefully successfully fought off the bullies in the neighborhood lets work on increasing our adsense revenue by helping make our ads more relevant and useful to the viewer

Adsblacklist.com

This site will help you increase your adsense revenue by helping you generate a blacklist for you to enter into your adsense account to block those pesky “made for adsense sites” from advertising on your site

Simply sign up for this free service at adsblacklist.com then fill in your url and keywords and it will automatically generate the black list from you. You can even look at the list of all the current blacklisted sites and one under consideration which you can vote thumbs up or thumbs down on

There is a Premier account which allows you to generate a full list of 200 sites and costs just £2.50 p/m (obviously as UK site)

While researching this service I uncovered some interesting tidbits. This is Version 2 of the site under new ownership- the previous version owners were banned from google because of using the Adsense trademark in the URL and they ran “Made for Adsense” sites themselves.
