How do social marketers raise money? Chipin.com

I’m a fan of justin.tv and the different lifecasts on the site. I watch ijustine and other channels off and on most days.
Over time I noticed a widget on most lifecasts trying to raise money to go mobile. when most lifecasters start out on justin.tv it is typically a web cam on their desktop the next step is to buy the mobile setup and broadcast on the move. I’m not sure how much this is but it must be pretty expensive.
The requirements to broadcast on the move are:
- Ultra light laptop
- extended life laptop battery
- portable usb webcam w/ microphone mounted somewhere to your person
- EVDO Rev A modem
- Unlimited internet cellular plan
I had also seen the widget on other sites trying to raise money as well

It’s a little like running your own telethon and interesting in that when you visit the site you can see how far the individual or site has progressed against the goal
